What was your role in the military?
I entered basic training at the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1995, and graduated four years later as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1999. Then, off to pilot training in Columbus, MS. The funny thing is… I never planned to be in the military, nor be a pilot! I just wanted to make a difference.
I flew seven different aircraft in the Air Force, along with having the honor of holding several command positions in the active duty Air Force, the Air National Guard, and the Air Force Reserves. By my retirement 21 years later, (after eight deployments, 157 combat sorties and over 1,000 combat hours), I had come to realize that service to my country was a calling, not just a job.
How did your experience inform your perspective in the private sector?
Three years ago, I was on the other side of the table, listening to industry pitch me on their solutions. At the time, however, I was focused entirely on the mission. Now that I’m on the “other side”, it’s a breath of fresh air to be able to present a solution, and watch my fellow Commanders (and peers) breathe a sigh of relief when they know that someone on “this side” understands their problem set and the consequences that come from non-action. I enjoy speaking to our partners across the Department of Defense to learn how we can collaborate together, find solutions, and get back to “mission first.”
What made you choose to join Govini?
I chose Govini because of the people and their dedication to the mission. Each individual on our team believes in what we do, and has equipped me and my team to get the job done. The professionals I work with at Govini are open to looking at challenges from a different perspective, and aren’t afraid to try a unique approach to execute our “no-fail” mission of strengthening U.S. national security. The transition from military to civilian life wasn’t easy, but having a common goal (with purpose) and still staying connected to my military family has been a game-changer for me, my family, and anyone I speak to on a day to day basis.
